James Vander Maas 1941-2020
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of past President James Vander Maas. James will be missed by us all at the Coalition to Protect MI Resources. He was instrumental in much of the work this organization has accomplished. Our thoughts and prayers are with his friends and family.
James Lloyd Vander Maas, 79, of Whitehall, passed away Wednesday, November 25, 2020. He was born April 20, 1941, in Detroit, the son of Harold and Dorothy (Boyd) Vander Maas.
Jim was past President of the Michigan Steelhead and Salmon Fisherman’s Association, and dedicated a great part of his life to Michigan fisheries. He was a devoted husband and father, and loved spending time with his grandchildren.
Jim is survived by: his wife, Ellen Vander Maas; children, Jim (Peg) Vander Maas and Sheila (Chris) Blair; grandchildren, Michael Vander Maas, Alyssa (Pete) DeMaat, Haylee (Alex) Prather, and Mason Waldron; great-grandchildren, Maya Vander Maas, Maddy Prather, and Scarlet Prather; and sister, Linda Deschamp.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Dorothy Vander Maas.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM, Tuesday, December 1, 2020, at Beacon Cremation & Funeral Service, White Lake Chapel, 413 South Mears Avenue, Whitehall, MI 49461.
